Like the Sopranos without guns.

This is my favorite wine on the list at aoc right now, but when I saw it at Blair's in Silverlake last week I had to blog about it because owner, Marshall Blair (pictured), said he just can't seem to sell it. I was baffled! I sell like 4 bottles of this stuff BTG on my one night a week at aoc. The bartender Rick said to me last week, "Is this the only thing you know how to sell??" And the answer is, "YES RICK. IT IS!"

2005, Fattoria Laila from Rosso Piceno. Rosso Piceno is a sub-region of the Marches in East / Central Italy, made primarily from Sangiovese and Montepulciano. So it has the high acid and moderate tannins of Sangiovese with the dark dusty fruit and rusticity of Montepulciano. It's Italian like Tony.

Get yourself over to Blair's because
1) It's not as far as you think
2) It's such a lovely place to eat - lunch and dinner.
3) They have plenty of my favorite value wine in stock!
4) The reservation you made at Mozza last Tuesday is still 3 weeks away.

Hey, I just got a different Laila this week, a Verdicchio that I'm excited about. Will have to check this one out. Thanks!

I particularly loved him in Kojak.

If you want real Sopranos wine come by and pick up a Tasca D'Almerita Cabernet Sauvignon. I think in season two or three Tony went to Arty Buco's restaurant for a special occasion dinner and asked for his best best wine. The Tasca D'almerita was placed on his table and it was the Cab.

So when Henry had it on deal last week I bought the last 16 bottles. Come try one, for the "2005-era price" of $39.99. One of the best Sicilian Cabs you can find. Oh, and it is an '02 (drinking great right now!) - JZ

That $40 olive oil wiped me out. I'm dead broke now, but boy is it DELICIOUS! I put it on a watermelon and burrata salad yesterday. Does that sound gross??

No really, can you save a bottle of the cab for me? Will you be there on July 11th? I can pick it up then - next time I get stuck. I can't remember when you're leaving for your vacaciones?

Glad you liked the olive oil. The provencal stuff has a sentimental place for me. When I worked for hip indie label, Triple X Records, part of my duties took me to Cannes every year for 6-7 years. I love the stuff.

Will do on the Tasca Cab. We are closed July 4th weekend but back to normal on the 8th, so the 11th works.
