Avignonesi is a Tuscan producer known for their pure expression of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano (not to be confused with Montepulciano d'Abruzzo in the South or Brunello di Montalcino also in Tuscany) This wine is 85% Sangiovese (well actually the Sangiovese clone Prugnolo Gentile), 10% Canaiolo Nero and 5% Mammolino. Whatever, right? It tastes good. Many Vino Nobile's are less than noble, usually rustic and edgy. However, the Avignonesi has firm tannins, light cherry fruit and good acidity. A nice everyday drinking wine for $22.99 at the Wine House. They also have it in half bottles at Wine Pavilion in Orange County for $12.99.
I like to consider myself the Carrie Bradshaw of the wine world. Not because I am a particularly talented writer, but because I love LA as much as she loves NY AND my expenditures on wine equal hers on Manolo Blahniks. In the 2006 calendar year I spent $13,846.37 on wine. Retail. For some big collectors that’s nothing, I know. But for me, with my modest income, that’s more than I pay annually in rent. And that’s why I’m like Carrie Bradshaw, she couldn’t afford her apartment either.

Confusing and irresistible.

When
I actually had a chance to have a winery tour at Avignonesi several years ago during my visit to Cortona. First of all, great tour. But second, it was a great drinking wine. I really enjoyed the Avignonesi Desidero which is a Merlot-Cabernet blend. Very tasty.
You know what's funny - this is my go to "parent wine". Peter's dad really likes it. It's cheap and good and please everyone! I really like this winery and this it's totally cool that you got to visit. Peter brought home a bottle of the Desider and it was corked - bummer. The sweets are legendary, but I can't afford those YET.
Yes. Aren't they known for their precious Vin Santo. i have never tried it and due to the limited number of bottles produced, I doubt I ever will.
